Today I’m at York and, as I said earlier in the week, it is one of my favourite tracks to ride.

I’m lucky enough to have six rides, and it’s great I’ve got one in the Sky Bet York Stakes which is a Group 2 (so one off the highest level). I’m on Castlelyons, which is trained by Robert Stevens.

He goes up against some very good, experienced horses and, as it’s only his second career run, it’s not a surprise he’s the outsider of the field. But the connections wouldn’t be running him if they didn’t think a lot of him, so I’m excited to see how he goes.

I headed down to Sandown on Thursday to ride Chiringuita for Middleham-based trainer James Bethall in the Star Stakes.

She finished second last which on paper looks a bit disappointing, but she stumbled early in the race and her inexperience showed. If you look at the result she was only beaten just under six lengths by a good winner, and as it was the second run of her career she will definitely improve on that display.

It’s sad the Go Racing in Yorkshire Festival is coming to an end tomorrow at Pontefract, but we’ve still got two jewels in the Yorkshire Racing crown to come this Flat season – the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival (19 – 22 August) and the Ladbrokes St. Leger Festival (9 – 12 September).

You always want to be competitive at these meetings and I’ll be working hard to get some good rides. If you’ve never been to these two Festivals I encourage you to get along to them, the action on the track is top-class and the atmosphere is always unbelievable – I’ll see you there!

The Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival runs from 18th – 26th July. For more info visit www.goracing.co.uk or follow on Twitter @YorkshireRacing.
