ROB DINWIDDIE is celebrating tonight after finally sealing a place at The Open Championship at the 16th time of asking.
The Barnard Castle golfer will be the North-East's representative at St Andrew's on July 16 after sealing one of three final qualifying spots at Woburn.
His 70 and 68 were enough to finish in second spot behind amateur Paul Dunne, while the renowned South African Retief Goosen secured the other place at St Andrew's.
There was no such joy for the region's other hopefuls at the other final qualifying venues. Harrogate's John Parry was closest in tied sixth spot at Hillside.
