Spennymoor 1 Burscough 1.

Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley said he didn’t learn anything from their 1-1 draw with Burscough at the Brewery Field on Saturday.

Their final game before the play offs was always going to be fairly meaningless in terms of points and league position, but Ainsley was maybe hoping for a better performance to round off the league season in front of their own fans.

As expected, he left several regulars out of the starting line up, and gave his fringe players an outing.

Keeper Gareth Young, in for the suspended Adam McHugh, did his confidence a power of good by making good saves from Will Jones and Eddie Toner in the first half, but he had no chance on 61 minutes when Jones headed in a right wing cross.

But Moors kept going and levelled with a minute left when the Burscough keeper spilled a Robert Briggs shot, and Ian Ward pounced to give Moors their third successive draw.

“It was a very poor, typical end of season game with nothing to play for, but it didn’t tell me anything I didn’t know already. We’re just looking forward now to a fantastic occasion on Wednesday.”

Midfielder Andrew Stephenson missed yesterday’s game but is expected to be fit for Wednesday, but midfielder Anthony Peacock will be missing because of suspension.
