Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley says that their 4-1 victory at Dunston UTS in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup was “very satisfying.”

Moors took a stranglehold on the game by scoring in the opening minutes, and they went on to win their third FA Cup tie on the road following the previous victories at Tadcaster and Bishop Auckland.

“That was a very satisfying victory,” said Ainsley. “To put four past a very good Dunston team was a great achievement.

“Some people thought that the game would be a banana skin and we would lose, but we proved them wrong with some excellent play. The early goal made a big difference.

“The players worked hard throughout the team and defended well when they had to. I thought Liam Henderson was magnificent, he was unplayable at times.

“I would prefer a home tie now to reward our fans, because we’ve played every game away so far. I know geographically we can get anybody from the north, but we’ll probably get either Shildon or Blyth!”

Moors took the lead after 5 minutes when Michael Roberts found recent signing Shane Henry who crossed for Anthony Peacock to score from a few yards.

Gary Ormston missed a good chance to equalise, and Joe Tait had a header cleared off the line before Moors went 2-0 up on the half hour when Roberts broke down the right and beat Dunston keeper Liam Connell with a cross-cum-shot that crept in at the far post.

It was 3-0 six minutes after half time when Liam Henderson, who had an excellent game, seized on a poor headed back pass by Dunston defender David Coulson, ran though and easily beat Connell.

Andy Bulford pulled a goal back for Dunston when he volleyed home, but Roberts made sure with a glancing header from a Kallum Griffiths cross.
