JADE Jones admits a pair of major international bronze medals will act as the perfect launch pad for Rio 2016 after adding the second to her collection with a gutsy display at the IPC Athletics European Championships.

Jones, 18, is just three weeks removed from 1500m bronze at the Commonwealth Games – her first major senior international medal – and her summer only got better in Swansea with third in the 5000m.

But the tension could not have been greater heading into the final bend with four athletes vying for two places on the podium – and her time of 13:56.66 minutes was just enough for third.

Manuela Schaer of Switzerland stormed away to gold by almost 40 seconds but with another medal bagged and the Rio 2016 Paralympics drawing closer, Jones’ sights are fixed on making a big impression in Brazil.

“I’m really happy, to come off the back of the Commonwealth Games and to come into this and win another bronze, it’s incredible,” said Jones, who is being supported by Sainsbury’s, a proud sponsor of the British Paralympic Association and its athletes all the way to Rio 2016.

“And it’s great to have a home crowd once again, cheering me on.

“I went into this season not having any senior medals, and now I’ve come away with two I’m really happy.
