SUNDERLAND have completed the signing of Jack Rodwell from Premier League champions Manchester City for a fee believed to be worth around £10m.
The highly-sought after midfielder arrives on Wearside after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal and is the breakthrough in the transfer market Gustavo Poyet has been waiting for.
Rodwell, 23, began his career with Everton, rising through the club’s prestigious academy to make over 80 appearances for the Toffees, as well as earning his first call up to the England national side.
Following success with Everton, Rodwell joined Manchester City in 2012, playing in the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and Capital One Cup.
Rodwell said: “I met up with the head coach and all the people involved with the club. They told me about the club and their vision and it swayed me. It’s such a good club with passionate fans and I can’t wait to get on board. This is a great place for me to be.”
