Henderson gets chance to stake England World Cup claim against Peru
JORDAN HENDERSON will hope to stake his claim for a place in England's World Cup starting line-up when Roy Hodgson's side play their opening warm-up game against Peru this evening.
Henderson, who is hoping to become the first Wearsider to play in a World Cup finals, will start in midfield as England play their only home friendly ahead of the tournament in Brazil.
The former Sunderland midfielder will play alongside Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard at the base of midfield as Hodgson tries out the 4-2-3-1 formation he is expected to field at the World Cup.
Adam Lallana and Danny Welbeck will play on either flank, with Wayne Rooney expected to start in a withdrawn role behind Daniel Sturridge.
Welbeck's selection is an interesting one, as it suggests the Manchester United forward is ahead of Liverpool's Raheem Sterling in the pecking order.
ENGLAND (4-2-3-1): Hart; Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines; Gerrard, Henderson; Lallana, Rooney, Welbeck; Sturridge.
Subs: Foster (gk), Forster (gk), Wilshere, Lampard, Smalling, Milner, Lambert, Sterling, Barkley, Stones, Flanagan.
