Davie – Battle of boards will be key to Wildcats victory

DURHAM WILDCATS coach Lee Davie believes the battle of the boards is the key to tonight’s meeting with Worcester Wolves.

Wildcats are currently in a threeway tie for seventh in the British Basketball League as they look to secure their play-off spot while Wolves are second, eight points off top with four games in hand, and come into the game off-the-back of BBL Trophy success in Glasgow.

Wolves have won both meetings between these teams this season but Davie can see where they have had the edge and will look to address this tonight.

“We need to limit post catches and focus heavily on rebounding at both ends of the floor,” he said.

“Worcester do a great job of taking care of their defensive boards, limiting you as an offence to one shot each possession, which forces you to be very efficient.

“They also do a great job on the offensive boards giving themselves more shots as a team from high percentage spots around the basket.”

Durham’s drive all season has been to make the playoffs and Davie insists that nothing will change as the pressure builds and they get closer to that goal.

“We’re not doing anything different than we have been all year long.

“We’re trying to get better each and every possession, if we put together enough good possessions over the course of the game we will get the results we are looking for and achieve our season-long goal to make the playoffs.

Wildcats guard Ralph Bucci said: “Worcester have so many options offensively it makes them very tough to defend, plus they do a good job of controlling the boards to limit your second chance opportunities.

“I think it is going to come down to the last weekend until the playoff spots are decided, we need to try and get a couple more wins for us to get in.”
