WYNYARD Golf Club’s latest recruit has celebrated by hitting his first ever hole-in-one.

Cameron Wallace was playing at Seaton Carew, where he has been playing for the last couple of years, when he lost track of his ball.

When Wallace hit his eight-iron tee shot on the 148-yard third hole, he wondered if he had overshot the green.

The 14-year-old said: “I thought I had gone out the back of the green and because I didn't see it bounce. I walked up to the green and it was in the hole, I couldn't believe it.

“In fact I only played one more hole, the fourth, and had to go back in because I couldn't concentrate. I rang my dad straight away, told him, and then went back to the clubhouse.”

The hole-in-one has given Wallace, an Elite Development Squad scholar at Dyke House Sports & Technology College, has continued his perfect start to 2014.

He was on the east coast of Scotland on Sunday to represent the England North Under-18s against Scotland Under-18s at Archerfield.

He has also received a call-up to the Teesside & District Union of Golf Clubs squad in preparation for the Inter District Union fixtures this year.

NORTH-EAST golf clubs have been invited to take part in biennial England Golf research which will help to grow the game.

The 2014 Golf Club Membership Questionnaire has been sent to all clubs in England and the results will provide a picture of what is happening within the sport, as well as highlighting trends, key themes and examples of best practice.

It will help support the forthcoming England Golf Strategic Plan, which sets out to inspire people of all ages to make golf a part of their life and aims to reverse the trend of declining club membership.
