Sunderland to face Hull in FA Cup quarter-finals
SUNDERLAND will take on Hull City in the FA Cup quarter-finals after the Tigers claimed a 2-1 win over Brighton in Monday night's fifth-round replay.
Bruce has already masterminded two victories over Sunderland this season, both of which saw the Wearsiders fail to keep 11 men on the field.
Lee Cattermole and Andrea Dossena were dismissed as Hull claimed a 1-0 win on Humberside in November, while Wes Brown saw red in the opening five minutes of Sunderland's 2-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light at the start of this month.
The two sides have met on three previous occasions in the FA Cup, with Sunderland triumphing in all three games.
The date of the quarter-final tie will be announced later this week, with three potential options available: Saturday, March 8 (tea-time), Sunday March 9 (1.30pm) or Monday, March 10 (evening kick-off).
Tonight's replay resulted in a routine victory for Hull, who are unable to call upon Shane Long or Nikica Jelavic for their FA Cup matches.
Curtis Davies opened the scoring with a 14th-minute header that looped over Brighton goalkeeper Peter Brezovan, with Robert Koren doubling Hull's lead via a deflected free-kick shortly before the interval.
Lewis Dunk rattled the crossbar five minutes into the second half, and Brighton claimed a goal back when Leonardo Ulloa headed home in the 69th minute.
However, despite creating some late pressure, the Seagulls were unable to set up a quarter-final reunion with their former manager, Gustavo Poyet.
