Monkhouse strikes to earn cup replay

Full-time: Hartlepool 1 Coventry 1

COLIN Cooper says his Hartlepool side deserved at least a draw in Saturday's FA Cup second round tie at home to Coventry City.

The two sides will replay at Northampton Town's Sixfields - City's temporary home - on December 17 after Andy Monkhouse's 78th-minute header cancelled out City's early opener.

"Coventry are one of the best footballing sides in League One, and we've given them a game," said Pools boss Cooper.

"They got into our half too easily in the first half, but credit to the lads, they took on board what we said at half-time and they really stepped up their game in the second half and were a real credit, I was really proud of them.

"We made some changes and the subs made an impact and that's what they're supposed to do."

City took the lead in the 12th minute when Franck Moussa found space on the right and squared inside to Baker, whose first time shot was blocked. But Moussa reacted quickly to return the loose ball back into the danger area and Baker, who scored in City's 3-1 first round win at AFC Wimbledon, netted with a brilliantly-taken volley.

Pools came out positively after the break and started to dictate the game, but they had to wait until 12 minutes from time for the leveller.

Dolan found sub Jonathan Franks down the right with a quality ball, and the midfielder chipped a pin-point ball inside for Monkhouse who powered a header past Murphy.
