WEST BROM have opened talks to sign unsettled striker Stephane Sessegnon from Sunderland.

The Baggies are understood to have discussed a possible £4m deal for Sessegnon, who was axed from the Black Cats squad for Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Crystal Palace.

Sunderland officials are hoping to receive £6m for Sessegnon, who has also been linked with a possible deadline-day move to Qatar.

It is likely that a compromise fee will be agreed, with West Brom also hoping to sign striker Victor Anichebe from Everton.

Paolo Di Canio is willing to sell Sessegnon, who was charged with drink driving on Tuesday evening while the majority of his Sunderland team-mates were at the Stadium of Light securing a Capital One Cup win over MK Dons.
