SUNDERLAND boxer Glenn Foot is looking to continue his explosive rise at this Friday’s ‘Loaded and Ready’ show, when he will face arguably his toughest test to date.

The Prizefighter winner will take on Wales’ Jason Cook at Rainton Meadows Arena, in what promises to be an epic contest.

Foot’s coach, Dave Binns, said: “I don’t think you could put either of these two lads in a ring and it wouldn’t be a good fight.”

The Foot camp are certainly not underestimating their fighter’s veteran opponent, a former European lightweight champion boasting an impressive record of 30 wins from 34 fights.

Binns said: “Glenn’s in good shape, he’s done his homework, he will absolutely box anybody. But the thing is about this, and I sincerely mean this, I can’t think of a harder opponent to put that boy in with. This is a massive test, and after that, there’s not a step up to championship level. This is championship level with this opposition here.”

Promoter Phil Jeffries said: “That man’s coming up here to win. I know Glenn’s only had ten fights but he’s a scalp, as Prize Fighter champion.

And vice-versa, Cook’s a scalp for us – you can’t get a better name than that on his CV.”

Although taking nothing for granted, he expects the Sunderland fighter to continue his rise up the boxing ladder at Rainton Meadows, and be challenging for titles in the near future.

Jeffries said: “If Glenn comes through with flying colours, which I know he will, his next fight will be an eliminator for a title or a title fight.

“Glenn’s different to any other boxer we’ve got in the North-East. If he’s promoted right, he could be absolutely massive.”

After his convincing Prizefighter victory in January, it seems that Foot thrives on the big occasions, and the pressure of the upcoming bout isn’t affecting the former ABA finalist.

Binns said: “I’ve never met anybody like him. I don’t think you could ever lift up or drop down his attitude. If you told him it was going to be world-wide televised, he would still only be focused on that one man.

“It’s a big occasion for him, and he’s not underestimating it.

Foot’s bout against Jason Cook is the chief support on the ‘Loaded and Ready’ show, with Jon-Lewis Dickinson’s British Cruiserweight title defence against Mike Stafford the main event. The card also features a host of North-East boxing talent, including Northern Area lightweight champion Gary Fox and Tommy Ward, the country’s youngest professional.
