LOIC REMY has been given permission to travel to Newcastle United for talks after an agreement was reached with Marseille.
The Magpies are understood to have told the French club that they are willing to meet the £10m asking price.
Marseille president Vincent Labrune said: "It is true, we have an agreement in principle with Newcastle. We have therefore given them permission to chat with Loic."
Now Remy is planning to fly to Tyneside to discuss a move and there are hopes he can pass a medical and agree personal terms in time to face Reading on Saturday.
Newcastle have been looking for a new striker since Demba Ba left to join Chelsea in a £7.5m deal and Remy has been on their radar for over a year.
Manager Alan Pardew, who has already paid £5.5m for full-back Mathieu Debuchy, is still on the look out for more new faces.
