REGARDING Rob Meggs’ letter about gay marriage (HAS, June 14).

Mr Meggs, with his usual hypocritical assertions concerning liberal and social behaviour, must believe that the majority of people in this country are thick or els, like the politicians of this country, he makes it up as he goes along.

Liberal behaviour is fine as long as a majority in society are prepared to accept it. But it seems the majority have no say in the matter and the privileged minority are in charge – people like pernicious judges and their ilk along with a parliament more interested in their own welfare than the nation as a whole.

To suggest family life has more to do with the whim of liberal rights, and that society has a responsibility to give those who wish to make a mockery of it absolution for their behaviour, is unacceptable.

Marriage has nothing to do with the church it has a lot to do with a man and woman who are prepared to take the responsibility of bringing a family up and to be law abiding citizens of society.

Without that ethos society will not survive. One just has to consider western civilization and its decline. Let’s not kid ourselves, we are in bother.
