IS it any wonder that the public take a sometimes jaundiced view of their local councillors when a Tory councillor being paid £23,000 for attending just 19 meetings in the last three years.

Sara Cliff has been paid the equivalent of £500 an hour for her duties as a member of Lincolnshire Council.

Even more galling, a year after being elected in 2009, she moved 120 miles away to become a Methodist minister in Soham, Cambridgeshire. That hardly makes her local?

She has steadfastly ignored the calls for her to “do the right thing” and resign and continues to pocket her £8,000-a-year allowance.

Most local councillors work very hard for their communities and they are not in it for the money.

I wonder why the Tax Payers’ Alliance are surprisingly silent on this one? Oh hang on, I get it.
