CHRIS GRAYLING,the Minister for Employment, blames Labour for hiding the true level of youth unemployment.
He says under Labour 1.3m people were transferred onto a training allowance, which paid the same as jobseeker’s allowance – the only difference was the claimants disappeared from the jobless register.
The Conservatives are doing exactly the same today with the Work Programme.
Attending employabilty courses, work placements and confidence and motivation training mean a jobseeker is shunted straight onto training allowance, removing them from the claimant count even though they are not employed.
The mandatory work activity is another tool the Government will use to massage the unemployment figures.
Labour may have hidden 1.3m from the figures but the Conservatives’ attempt to hide double that figure is shameless.
