THE Yarm Road area of Darlington has really entered into the spirit and fun of the forthcoming Olympics, with an even greater display of empty crisp bags, sweet wrappings, cans, takeaway cartons, plastic bottles and discarded cigarette packets.

One thing noticeable by its absence on my daily walk for the paper is dog dirt. This has been somewhat lacking in the last few days – maybe the heat was a bit much.

The trip is still a little dangerous due to brainless cyclists, who think they are above the law, and colour-blind motorists who don’t know the traffic light sequence.

For their education the top one is red and it means STOP.

Alec Telford, Darlington.
