VJ CONNOR complained of three pointless and costly speed bumps that have been added to a quiet residential estate in Bishop Auckland (HAS, May 29).

As a resident, we received letters from Durham County Council’s Neighbourhood Services making us aware of the problems with speeding drivers in this area and the high volumes of traffic using the road through the estate.

The letter said there was an obvious and clear need for traffic calming measures. It also asked for our comments. There have been several accidents on this stretch of road in previous years.

The council has also spent lots of money repairing sections of it.

Personally, I can say that these speed bumps have made a tremendous difference. My car suspension can clearly handle these speed bumps, as will all cars if they are being driven appropriately.

I would like to invite VJ Connor to come and monitor the traffic on the B6282 and see the problem for himself.
