I RECENTLY received Durham County Council’s “news” magazine.
The front page promises an Olympic celebrations eight page guide to draw the reader in.
Unfortunately, within the whole publication, sport barely features with only a reference to a new multi-sports club. Is this further evidence of the council’s incompetence?
It closes or palms off leisure centres claiming that sports development will provide participation in local communities, which has not happened.
More importantly, what is being done within the remaining facilities to encourage more participation?
In the council’s own Sport and Leisure strategy it talks of an “Olympic participation legacy” and that the barrier to this is “lack of awareness” yet its very own magazine is empty.
What went wrong?
