FIRSTLY, a big thank you to former Darlington manager Craig Liddle, the players and loyal supporters who have done so much to help the club.

But how have we ended up in a lowly league with no ground to call our own? We are, no matter what people may say, a phoenix club.

Numerous chairmen have come and gone often losing us ten points by putting us into administration, and yet the most criticised ex-chairman is George Reynolds. Why?

He built a stadium of which we as a town and a football club should be proud.

Yes, I know people will say it was too big and that we should have stayed at Feethams, but do we know the full story about why we left Feethams?

I’m not a personal friend of Mr Reynolds, but I do feel that if he had the backing of the council from the word go – allowed to hold car boot sales, for example – things might have turned out differently.

Some readers may think this is written by George himself, but the editor knows it is not. It is written by a long-time supporter of the club who feels that we are losing a big asset – if it were run properly – by leaving the stadium.

Can anyone come up with £1m or more that it would take to go back to Feethams?

Finally, please don’t turn the Neasham Road stadium into another supermarket.

B Wetherill, Hurworth Place.
