READING Echo Memories about the Black Horse of Tudhoe (Apr 18) arising from the village pond brought back memories.
It was 1982 and I was returning home from work. My shift finished at midnight at Bishop Auckland Ambulance Station.
As I drove into Tudhoe, near the Black Horse Inn, I saw coming up the road on my side very slowly, a dark coloured horse. I had to stop sharply. It approached me, passed by my right side and to the rear of the car. As it walked past there was no sound of clip clop of hooves.
This was about 12.30am.
Afraid that the horse might be hurt in an accident, I went into a phone box and rang the police.
They asked me if I’d been out for the night. I said I was returning home from work and they promised to look into it.
Did I see a ghostly creature?
I’m not sure, but I did not see a headless rider.
H Reed, Meadowfield.
