I VISITED Redcar last week to see what progress was being made on the controversial vertical pier and the new sea defences.
The new pier was looking good, but I could not believe what was taking place along the promenade. A Berlin type wall is being constructed to a height of about 6ft, between the promenade and the beach.
As a result the wonderful views of the sands, the sea and the coastal cliffs can no longer be seen.
Did I dream this? Nobody could surely have agreed to this act of vandalism. After all, a seaside resort’s greatest asset is its promenade and wonderful sea views. Has anybody else had this nightmare dream, or could it be that the destruction of this irreplaceable asset is actually taking place in Redcar?
