THE only horse race I watch each year is the Grand National and like every other genuine racing fan I keep my fingers crossed each year that both horse and jockey will make it around the course safely. This rarely happens.
This year the overhead camera clearly captured footage of a dead horse covered in a tarpaulin as the field raced past. The same overhead camera caught footage of another horse surrounded by a tent being treated by vets.
Unfortunately this horse died from its injuries.
I have decided that I will avoid participating in future Grand Nationals as a once a year punter until the height of the fences are reduced to ensure that horses can race safely. I urge others to do likewise.
Malcolm Clarke, Lanchester.
