WE are constantly reminded that “lessons learnt” are an important part of life.
I therefore have a suggestion for the Government. Let’s have a referendum on whether or not we should continue to bail out failing European economies.
The Icelandic people have now been asked twice as to whether they should pay back the money lost by the collapse of their banks. Twice they have said no.
We should be asked if we wish to bail out Greece, Portugal and Ireland.
We could even go one stage further, if Mr Cameron could regain his pre-election nerve and have a referendum as to our continued membership of the EU. We all know what the answer to that would be.
