FOLLOWING the revealing and distasteful remarks by Oliver Letwin, about the incongruity of the working class taking foreign holidays, some HAS correspondents seem to have concluded that the Tories dislike such people and hold them in contempt.

This really should come as no great surprise. The greater surprise to me is that there should be such a thing as working class Tory. It’s a contradiction in terms.

I’m afraid, however, that I have further bad news; if there’s one thing the Tories hate more than the working class it’s their older contemporaries.

They fill up old peoples homes, block hospital beds, are no longer productive and worse still, have stopped paying National Insurance and Income Tax.
