WHY all the fuss about the bonuses paid to bankers?

It’s not the bankers’ fault that the head of Barclays, Bob Diamond, is to receive a seemingly generous £8m bonus.

After all, his bank did not ask to be bailed out. Surely the fault lies in the contract awarded to Mr Diamond when he joined the bank. Would you have turned it down?

However, when it comes to the Royal Bank of Scotland, which received a bail-out from the Government and is virtually owned by the taxpayer, I take a different view.

For the head of this bank to allegedly to be paid a £2.4m bonus is unreal. Is it justifiable? I do not think so when the average saver receives virtually no interest on an RBS account.
