HOW many people will have woken up on Monday morning thinking about The Great North Run, thinking about what a great event it has become for the region and for individuals?
Maybe they vowed to try to take part next year?
Congratulations to everyone who did something in, or for, the run this year.
How unthinkable it would be if there were not to be a “next year”.
In Darlington this Monday morning, there were many of us feeling the same about the Rhythm and Brews Festival.
Almost as mature an event as the Great North Run, it also gives thousands of people in our area an opportunity to feel good and also to contribute to the well-being of others.
It, too, is not just about the stars. It’s about all the volunteers, sponsors, support workers and appreciative participants.
Mostly, it’s all about the pride in this region and our town, when people can willingly put so much effort into enhancing Darlington’s reputation and helping people enjoy it.
Such days also have their part to play in the North-East.
Here’s to next year’s event – long may it continue.
S Dixon, Darlington.
