ON Tuesday September 21 the funeral of the Second World War heroine Eileen Nearne took place.
During the Second World War individuals such as Eileen went into occupied countries to organise Resistance groups and obtain information which helped Britain and her allies defeat the Nazis.
The courage shown by Eileen Nearne was typical of those who serve within Britain’s Military Intelligence service.
Although the late Queen Mother had a memorial plaque dedicated within Westminster Abbey, this is the only public memorial of its kind. Given the immense debt we as a nation owe to these often forgotten heroes and heroines, is it not time that a far better public memorial be built to honour them?
