WHAT a shame that the new steel gear mechanism for Whitby’s swing bridge had to be imported from Italy when, once upon a time, British steel parts were readily available from towns such as Sheffield. Never mind, Scarborough Borough Council got its “finger out” in obtaining this new gear mechanism so the bridge could start operating again.
