IT is good news that we are to have a new three-part TV series based on the life of vet James Herriot (Alf Wight), focusing on his younger years (Echo, July 29).

Reference is made in your article to the fact that his old surgery in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, has become a major tourist attraction.

I should also like to point out that the actual set of the Eighties’ BBC1 series can be seen at the Richmondshire Museum, in Richmond, and continues to attract enthusiastic visitors from all over the world.

In addition, and for a short time only, we have a display on the excavations at various times of the Roman camp known as Cataractonium as well as two Roman stone lions found in the same area. Well worth a visit.
