THE quotation supplied by Peter Hill (HAS, April 5) hit the nail right on the head, as has been proved by all the many, some would say too many, politicians of all shapes, sizes and hues that we have.

Hindsight, apologies or a knowledge of history is not in their make-up.

In fact these qualities would be a hindrance to them in their quest to climb the greasy pole of Westminster along with their contempt of the electorate and its needs.

A quotation from Lord Acton also applies to all national and local servants of the people: “The only thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history.”
