CONSERVATIVE leader David Cameron has said he is flattered by the Labour Party poster depicting him as Gene Hunt.
I bet he is. As many female fans will know, Gene Hunt, the tough, uncompromising detective in the BBC 1 television series Ashes to Ashes, is the Mr Darcy de nos jours.
He may go for the jugular, but he understands about justice. He may be a chauvinist, but his heart is in the right place.
He’s exactly the clear-sighted kinda guy you’d want fighting your corner. Somewhere, very, very deep down, he’s a pussycat, and – as characterised by actor Philip Glenister – altogether sexy. What’s not to like?
Those in charge of the Labour Party election campaign cannot have fully thought through the analogy. I’m not sure David Cameron has all the Gene Hunt attributes, but now they’ve produced the image – and the more I think about it – my female inclinations rather tend towards it. Own goal, I think.
