HOW Conservative leader David Cameron must be wishing the MPs’ expenses expose had not come out.

Coasting to a probable General Election victory, he may now find the electorate will not produce results quite so favourable to the Tories.

What annoys me most is Tory contributors to Hear All Sides who condemn the Government for borrowing huge sums to help reduce the worst effects of this recession.

Help has been given to keep unemployment from getting completely out of hand. Help has been given to keep people in their homes rather than the misery of repossession.

The Tory alternative would have been four million out of work and many more repossessions.

We are in the midst of a global recession and all capitalist-based economies are suffering as we are. The IMF has praised Prime Minister Gordon Brown for his actions to help beat the downturn.

The Government, however, cannot escape blame for allowing the banks to ride roughshod over prudent fiscal policy.

Banks, for so long the bedrock of a stable democracy, have shamed themselves and let the country down. It will take them a long time to regain the trust of ordinary investors.
