IT was a pleasure to visit The Stanley Jefferson, the JD Wetherspoon’s pub in Bishop Auckland, last Wednesday, along with my two closest friends.

We were served by a very helpful and pleasant young man, Chris, who was also capable of communicating in words of more than one syllable and not a cursory grunt in sight. Our meal was bought to us by Luke, who was also helpful and pleasant, and nothing was too much trouble.

In the times in which we all find ourselves it is very easy to take for granted people who come in and out of our workplaces every day, never giving a thought to how they should be treated.

Well, these two young men deserve a pat on the back for their courtesy and thoughtfulness, and I hope the powers-that-be in their workplace recognise how special they are.
