I WAS astonished to see the archive photograph of the Darlington branch of Woolies (Echo, Dec 12 and 31).
It was taken in the summer of 1963, not the Fifties as you suggested, and it accidentally showed myself and Class 1A of St Augustine’s Roman Catholic Secondary Modern School for Girls walking through the town to see some of our work in an art exhibition in the library.
I have the original clipping in my photograph album even now. I believe it was taken to show some new traffic system which was being proposed.
I have some very happy memories of those days with such delightful children and staff.
