I WAS so pleased to read about the achievement of Edward Common, the 13-year-old Duchenne muscular dystrophy sufferer from Hexham, Northumberland, who has represented England at four-aside wheelchair football and who was presented with a Women’s Own Children of Courage award at Westminster Abbey (Echo, Dec 11).
It’s not easy being a Duchenne sufferer and it’s tremendous to hear about such success.
Since our five-year-old grandson, also Edward, was diagnosed 18 months ago, we have got to know of many other children with this devastating condition, and they are all amazingly positive.
Your readers may be interested to help fundraise, as our charity, Action Duchenne, is currently funding promising research at Oxford University. A song and video have been produced. See sayhellotoedward.com which will help raise awareness and funds for all Duchenne sufferers.
