I ATTENDED a meeting at Croft post office when Sedgefield MP Phil Wilson assured those present that "I will do everything I can to ensure that the post office stays open".

I must confess, however, that I formed the opinion (along with others) that he seemed, despite his assurances, to be an MP very much "on message", an opinion borne out by his disgraceful hypocrisy in voting with the Government against a halting of the closures pending a review, and thus negating the pledge he gave at that meeting.

This, and many other examples of the self-serving hypocritical behaviour of so many MPs, has re-enforced my view that they should no longer be afforded the titles "Honourable"

and "Right Honourable" as so few prove to be either.

I sincerely hope that Mr Wilson has much cause to regret his actions when people (and assuredly, opposition parties) recall his betrayal at the next General Election. - Ian J Walker, Hurworth Place, nr Darlington.

I SEE that despite MP Alan Milburn putting his name to a petition against the closure of post offices in Darlington he voted with the Government against a Conservative motion to postpone the closures.

I hope that people will remember this duplicity and vote accordingly at the next General Election. - John A Barr, Darlington
