VARYING views have been put forward on the subject of our National Anthem. I do think that an anthem expressing pride and loyalty for the nation, its history and aspirations for the future would be more suitable as we move ahead.

However, I would not like to see it changed while our present Queen still reigns. I would see it as a snub for this wonderful lady who has worked long, hard and faultlessly for the nation. May she live for many years to come and write herself a telegram for the "ton up".

When the time comes, a TV show to choose a suitable replacement - like those selecting the best leading artists for West End musicals and voted for by the public - could produce a stirring anthem for future generations to get behind and go forward with, united in pride.

It could feature the work of new and old composers, performed by choirs working together with a panel of judges who have shown by their achievements that they are passionately proud and loyal to our heritage.
