IT is always good to read in Hear All Sides about readers who complain about litter in their community. It shows they care.

Saturday was no exception with a letter referring to a new playground being tidied up before a visit from the mayor.

But rather than expect others to clean up the area why do residents not organise themselves and litter pick the area regularly?

All equipment is provided by Darlington Borough Council so what could be easier? Your letter shows that you have some pride in your community so start the ball rolling and you will be surprised by how many people will help you – and to start you off contact me and I will come over to help. My contact details are on DBC website.

Councillor Gerald Lee, Chair of Litter Free Durham & Darlington, Heighington & Coniscliffe Ward.
