IT was good to read and see photographs of the Atonement award winning film shot on Redcar beach back in 2007 (Echo, June 23).

Of course what many people will remember back then was the Redcar & Cleveland mayor walking along the red carpet with director Joe Wright to see Atonement at the Regent Cinema.

What we don’t want to see is the permanent closure of such a nostalgic cinema like the Regent due to structural problems, or that could be Redcar’s darkest hour.
