I FULLY support Prime Minister Theresa May’s proposal to spend an extra £384m per week on the NHS, exceeding the amount announced by the successful Leave campaign in the referendum (Echo, June 18).

The Government should be commended on this but for some reason social and elderly care are possibly neglected which is a major mistake.

Also, the fact that most of this finance will come through efficiency savings as a result of leaving the declining EU is good news.

However, the proposal to raise the rest via tax rises is a no, no.

It is not fair on working class people like myself that we have to pay these increased taxes whilst the country commits to an indefensible £12bn overseas aid budget. At least half, if not all, of this overseas aid budget must be re-directed into the NHS, elderly care and schools budgets.

We must put our own UK house in order before we start preaching to other countries, that we do not understand, on how to live their lives. Looking after our own in the UK should be the UK’s priority post Brexit.
