IN reply to (Honourable Alderman) Chris Foote Wood’s letter “Elected mayor” (HAS, June 11).
Many will agree with Chris’s views that the Darlington civic mayor should be kept separate from the council leader.
But what we are seeing are several Labour MPs who are not Jeremy Corbyn supporters going for elected mayor positions in the likes of Manchester and Sheffield. Then we have the political hypocrites who were once against elected mayors who then put themselves up for elections.
The “President Tony Blair” reference is somewhat below the political belt. If Tony Blair hadn’t gone to war in Iraq he may have been remembered for being one of the most successful Labour leaders. Such is politics.
