CLOSED: Bowood Lamb abattoir at Busby Stoop, near Thirsk
I CONGRATULATE Animal Aid for obtaining the distressing footage that led to the successful prosecution of some of those involved in appalling cruelty during halal slaughter of sheep at Bowood Lamb abattoir (Echo, March 3).
The sentences were lenient, considering the suffering caused to the sheep and two slaughtermen even got away with it by leaving the country.
At least this appalling case has contributed to more systems being put in place now in an attempt to ensure that such acts of cruelty cannot be repeated.
