IT is marvellous the lengths that Darlington Borough Council will go in their attempts to move the library, lock stock and barrel from Crown Street, where 90 per cent and more of library users want the library to stay, to the Dolphin Centre.

The cash strapped council, (remember they never have any money) has now spent more money on a promotional video which extols the virtues of having the library in the Dolphin Centre.

Nowhere does it mention high ceilings, quietness, acres of space below ground level to store important papers and ephemera which can be brought straight into the local studies centre for people to look at which are all available at Crown Street and which make the quiet peace of Crown Street library such an ideal place to read and study – which is what most people use a library for.
