THERE is a legal stumbling block to our leaving the single market, which former Prime Minister Dave Cameron, the Conservatives and the Leave campaigners all overlooked.
Whilst in the Common Market we also became EEA (European Economic Area) members. Several countries are EEA members, whilst not being in the EU.
All EU member countries are also in the EEA. When we come out of the EU we are still in the EEA. No one asked us on 23rd June 2016 if we wanted to leave the EEA.
David Cameron and his cabinet were wrong not to ask us if we wanted to leave the EEA too. Mrs May wants to brush this issue under the carpet.
In which pieces of legislation about the issue of us leaving the EU, is our EEA membership even mentioned please?
Without an act of parliament passed by Westminster, we continue as EEA members, with all that goes with it including the single market.
We need to be talking to our EEA partners, outside the EU, such as Iceland, Norway and the rest about our collective arrangements in the single market.
