MIKE ASHLEY’S reputation for looking after his employees is not always a good one.

This however certainly does not apply to Jack Colback, one of his players at Newcastle United, who he pays £70,000-a-week (EchoSport, Sept 16).

Not only does Colback not get a game, he is not even named as a substitute and according to the team’s much respected manager, he will not play again for Newcastle’s first eleven.

His weekly wage is approximately what a nurse, policeman and a fireman earn in a year together.

Jack turned down a move to Wolverhampton on transfer deadline day so it seems he prefers the money to first team football where his talents might be appreciated, unless, of course, he just likes living in the North-East so much.

I just hope he is paying his Income Tax.

Should he be getting a chance at Newcastle? Only Newcastle fans can tell me that.

I’m sure Darlington FC would welcome him on loan, and he wouldn’t have to move house, although Newcastle would have to continue to pay his salary.
