DURING my teenage years in the 1970s, schools were criticised for not tackling bullying.
Modern examples?
Teenagers have been driven to suicide by their peers on (anti) social media; ‘incomers’ can be ganged up on by the un-welcoming countrysiders; and recently a Tyneside man (who turned on his tormentor) was jailed for two years.
He had reported what was happening, moved away, and was tracked down to his new address. This is just one major problem with a justice system disturbingly happy to let bullies play it.
Victims of dysfunctional families, rogue landlords, etc can ring the police until they snap through lack of action – then they’ll be the only ones arrested/prosecuted.
The law favours/gives confidence to bullies. Time for a drastic anti-bullying overhaul.
