IN reply to Eric Gendle and Graham Lipthorpe (HAS, Sept 13). I would class the people who are my neighbours, the people who I mix with, the people I meet, my own family and relations, as ordinary people. I can only speak from my own experience.

Regarding abortion, following rape, I am against this. Abortion after rape is a double violation to the woman’s body. A programme on TV some years ago interviewed people who had been conceived as a result of rape. Each person said they were grateful they had been given the chance to live.

Some friends and myself did a survey in a busy shopping precinct and less than ten per cent were in favour of abortion.
