THERE appears to be something amiss with the powers of the United Nations when so many dictators throughout the world can commit atrocities on their people without fear of severe punishment.

When the UN was established after the end of the Second World War, there was real hope that they would police the world and prevent further wars taking place and be able to arbitrate on any disputes within countries.

Sadly this has not happened, and the world is now in a precarious situation with UN sanctions having little effect.
